A US based, diversified media information and services company sought to consolidate data centers for 19 business units across North America and the United Kingdom. The client wanted to identify potential cost savings and performance improvements in it's data center operations. In addition, it wanted to improve flexibility and agility in order to support a business diversification strategy but needed to insure faster time to market and water tight security. The client commissioned us to comprehensively assess the feasibility of moving to cloud based solutions, as well as to drive as a service delivery models to its distribution and client base. Utilizing Cognizant Cloud Steps, our cloud infrastructure migration assessment framework, an initial cloud suitability analysis and migration feasibility was performed for more than 500 applications hosted over 1,300 servers, spread across 19 business units in the US, Canada, and the UK. The result? We recommended the migration of approximately 40% of the current datacenter workloads to a combination of co-location and public infrastructure a service cloud facility. We're now working with this client in a phase migration approach. We recognize that standardization and automation would be key factors in delivering what the client needed.
